Plymouth

Situated on the South coast in Devon, Plymouth is a lively port city which is known for its maritime heritage and historic Barbican district with narrow, cobbled streets.

Nicknamed Britain’s Ocean City, Plymouth is surrounded by a beautiful waterfront complete with natural harbour. By bordering Devon and Cornwall, visitors can enjoy the beautiful, stretching coastline, with some of the most envied beaches and romantic hidden coves in Britain. Why not stroll along the shoreline, go crabbing or fishing in the various rock pools, get stuck into some of the exhilarating water sports activities, or simply soak up the sun whilst you bathe.

The origins of Plymouth can be traced back to Saxon times and the city has several sites of historical interest, such as the famous Mayflower steps, where the pilgrims set sail for the New World, in 1620. Plymouth has a set of museums and galleries revealing many interesting stories of the city’s heritage and history.

Dartmoor National Park not only has exceptionally stunning landscapes and fun walking trails, but it also possesses a fascinating history of transformation, from a tropical sea that receded into the moors you see today. Blessed with rich heritage and rare wildlife, it’s no wonder that Dartmoor attracts millions of visitors a year.

Plymouth is home to three statutory harbours and five marinas. Sutton Harbour, the oldest, houses the National Marine Aquarium, where visitors can see a whole variety of fish and animals.
